We woke early, to drive under dark skies and heavy downpour, filling up with strong coffee and the morning gamut of npr. We arrived to a sweeping blue Minnesota canopy, and I swear I will never tire of looking at these American skies, like paintings so full of luminous wonder so that I feel refreshed and beckoned every time I look at them. And when I wasn't waxing poetic looking up, we saw more cousins and grandparents and took in an evening game of Little League and ran in empty fields and stayed up far too late, because it's summer and it's America and we can do whatever we want to.
*these last two pictures by my budding photographer niece... isn't she a natural?
